To watch my daughters Alannah and Madeline absorbed in joyful play in our garden in Tasmania was to witness childhood as it’s meant to be lived – happy, safe and strong!
If feels like a lifetime ago that I started the Alannah & Madeline Foundation after the heartbreaking loss of my girls and their mother to shocking gun violence in Port Arthur in 1996.
And now, more than 25 years on, I’m making my first proper trip back to Tasmania since that terrible time… for a very special reason.
From Thursday 27 April to Sunday 30 April, I’ll be trekking the 46 km Three Capes Lodge Walk along the breathtaking Tasman Peninsula with my partner Bridget and a small group of dedicated Foundation supporters.
I know it will be an incredible, rewarding adventure and a time for reflection and conversation. But most importantly, it will be a chance to raise vital funds for a cause I’ve dedicated my life to: keep children and young people free from violence and trauma wherever they live, learn and play.
I’ve committed to raising funds for the Foundation’s care, prevention and advocacy programs for vulnerable young people. So, as a friend and supporter, I’m asking you to dig deep and sponsor me.
