What is Club Catch Challenge?

Club Catch Challenge invites children who enjoy sports of all kinds to catch as many balls as they can to help keep other children safe.

Sporting clubs around Australia can pick a day for their young people to catch at home, training or before their game.
Whichever sport your child loves to play, focused catching practice can significantly boost their coordination, agility and confidence.

Young people will love racing the clock to test their catching skills, earning special digital badges and fundraising to help other children who are doing it tough.

It takes sports practice and keeping active to a new level of heart-racing excitement!
And it can be a fun and fast warm up for your sporting season!

This thrilling new challenge is a partnership between the Alannah & Madeline Foundation and Cricket Australia, with support from the Hobart Hurricanes.

Club Catch Challenge Ambassadors

Two up-and-coming cricket super stars are supporting Club Catch Challenge and will be cheering your sporting club on as you use the power of your catch!

At only 19 years of age, Ella has already taken the cricket world by storm. She started playing cricket at her local club at just nine years old and by 11 years old she played for the state in the Under 12s national championships. Ella is currently part of the Women’s National Cricket League for Victoria and the Melbourne Renegades.

Wil Parker, at only 17, debuted for Cricket Victoria in 2020, and was the fourth-youngest player to do so. A right-arm leg-break bowler, he played for Victoria Under 17/Under 19s and for Australia in Under 17/Under 19s. A year later, he debuted for Hobart Hurricanes and also plays with Richmond Cricket Club. Now 20 years old, Wil studies osteopathy at RMIT and plays golf in his spare time.

Both Ella and Wil are passionate about inspiring this generation of children to embrace sports and active living, and believe Club Catch Challenge will take sports practice to a new level of heart-racing excitement!

Ella and Wil's catching tips:

  • Have a wide stance – so your feet are in line with your hips
  • Keep your eyes peeled for the ball
  • Reach for the ball with your whole body as it comes towards you
  • Once you connect with the ball, grasp it tightly with your fingers and squeeze

The difference your catch makes

Every hour of every day, at least one child in Australia is taken into the care of child protection authorities, as they are at serious risk of harm or have no other safe place to live.

The Alannah & Madeline Foundation champions the right of children and young people to be safe from violence and trauma. We want every child and young person to grow up feeling safe where they live, learn and play – including on the sporting field!

With Club Catch Challenge, every ball that young people catch and every dollar they raise will support the Foundation’s care, prevention and advocacy programs – from supporting children experiencing family violence to stopping online bullying and fighting for the rights of young people.

When your sporting club signs up for Club Catch Challenge, you are helping the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, with Cricket Australia, ensure the sporting community’s shared goal of protecting children can become a reality.
